Crisis Intervention is a specialized acute emergency mental health intervention approach, which requires specialized training. We get trained in how to use physical first aid, in the event of an emergency. These crisis intervention techniques give peers or leaders the tools they can use, if they find themselves needing to help someone who may be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. This program is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of, and a specific protocol for, individual crisis intervention.
Assisting Individuals in Crisis is a 13-hour minimum course. Typically taught over the course of two consecutive days. However, the instruction can be divided into smaller segments if needed to accommodate schedules.
An International Critical Incident Stress Foundation Instructor (ICISF) must teach this course curriculum. Cynthia Krosky is a recognized, approved and certified (ICISF) Instructor in this course.
In compliance with the criteria set forth by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Department of Emergency Health Services Professional and Continuing Education (PACE), only those certificates which reflect the full contact hours (e.g., full attendance) will be issued an ICISF certificate of attendance.
