We live in a world full of both positive and negative stressors. Participants will identify their responses to negative stress so that they may be more proactive in preventing fatigue, and cumulative stress which can lead to burn-out. Participants will develop an understanding of individual and organizational symptoms of compassion fatigue. To prevent and understand any of these elements we must have a sense of personal awareness of how we are responding emotionally, behaviorally, as well as how it is impacting us physically.
Are stress levels running high? Do staff express that they don’t know how they can give anymore? Then it is time to dive deeper into self-care and how to hold ourselves accountable in order to rebuild our resilience and combat possible compassion fatigue. In this program, we will discuss the importance of self-care and debunk the myths that self-care is selfish, by looking at how practicing self-care helps us to give the best of ourselves instead of what is left of ourselves. We will build upon concepts from previous programs on addressing stress hangovers and understanding how to build our resilience and body armor to serve our clients experiencing uncertain times and multiple crises. This program will be interactive with discussion and exercises to personalize strategies and goals for each participant.
The impact of violence and trauma can be life altering. It is estimated that 90% of the US population will be exposed to one or more traumatic events in their lifetime. In this course we will provide clarity on terms, look at risk factors that increase possible exposure. In addition, we will identify symptoms and tools to help survivors start to recover
We will discuss what it means to practice mindfulness, then examine how using mindfulness techniques increases our ability to practice wellness in six dimensions of our daily lives. There are many ways to provide self-care, some methods are healthier than others. Ineffective maladaptive self-care or coping mechanisms often occur unconsciously. This program will examine and encourage self-examination of productive and self-care methods in each area of wellness. Participants will explore the role of mindfulness and self-care to move forward in a healthy direction.
Research in 2013 identified that approximately 90% of the US population would be exposed to one or more traumatic event in their lifetime (Ogle, Rubin Bernsten, and Siegler). This means that we will work alongside or have someone in our lives that will experience a traumatic event. While hoping these statistics will decrease, what we can actively do is build a culture that helps everyone improve how they address stress and practice wellness. Taking this approach places people are in a better place to build resilience as well as to experience Post Traumatic Growth (PTG.) We will look at initiative-taking approaches, proper responses to events, and support resources available or tools and put in our toolbox to enhance potential for resistance, build resilience, and improve recovery.
Understanding how to improve our leadership allows our team to grow and prevents leaders from falling prey to exhaustion. Too often leaders fail to see the importance of setting parameters and sharing responsibility with the team, instead leaders will overextend themselves by taking on work that others should be doing. While the intent is to be helpful, it has long-term effects that are detrimental to building confident and independent teams, instead it builds dependency on the leader. When leaders clarify ownership and parameters for members of the team, everyone grows. A clearly defined role bolsters self-identity and protects social status within the team. Individual employees are intrinsically motivated as they feel their contributions are recognized, increasing buy-in, boosting self-esteem and confidence to take on tasks, all while building skills that increase independence. This program helps people evaluate ways to lead others to success, by expanding the skills of those they lead. Increase the confidence of your leaders by training with tools that will help them hold people accountable, provide clarity on goals and expectations, and see the stress decrease.
