If your leadership team of managers and coordinators consists of people who came from within or people hired outside the organization, they all represent one organization. While they may oversee various disciplines and even work within different regions, there is a need for consistency and objectiveness in the way they lead, make decisions, and seek to solve problems. When People in leadership share a common approach to situations, it helps to build trust and confidence in those they supervise. Leaders need to be able to step back and look at the “big picture.” How will this decision or action impact the entire community, not only beyond my direct reports, but across the region and to the people being served. This program will provide a solid understanding of elements that improve effectiveness as well as identify behaviors that can undermine performance and productivity. Leaders need to be self-aware, self-disciplined, and committed to improving their skills, to increase their success and the organization's success. Whether your leaders have been in their positions for years, or have recently emerged into their position, this program seeks to get everyone in leadership on the same page, and work from a consistent place for the organization.
Skilled and well-intentioned Managers and Coordinators may have a tremendous amount of experience and technical knowledge, but they may be lacking the skills needed to be an effective leader. This program is specifically customized to meet your agency’s needs, and the needs of the participants. This program is built from responses to a pre-program survey that is completed by the upper leadership and the participants to identify current strengths and specific areas for improvement. Typical issues that have been covered are how to demonstrate respect for those you supervise, and actively role-model ways to help others appropriately modify behaviors to increase the aptitude and altitude of those they lead/supervise. This customized program is intended to assure that attendees gain leadership skills that will help them rise to a new level as they recognize how to own their position.
Understanding how to improve our leadership allows our team to grow and prevents leaders from falling prey to exhaustion. Too often leaders fail to see the importance of setting parameters and sharing responsibility with the team, instead leaders will overextend themselves by taking on work that others should be doing. While the intent is to be helpful, it has long-term effects that are detrimental to building confident and independent teams, instead it builds dependency on the leader. When leaders clarify ownership and parameters for members of the team, everyone grows. A clearly defined role bolsters self-identity and protects social status within the team. Individual employees are intrinsically motivated as they feel their contributions are recognized, increasing buy-in, boosting self-esteem and confidence to take on tasks, all while building skills that increase independence. This program helps people evaluate ways to lead others to success, by expanding the skills of those they lead. Increase the confidence of your leaders by training with tools that will help them hold people accountable, provide clarity on goals and expectations, and see the stress decrease.
Leaders are responsible for being proficient in evaluating, managing, and motivating employees, but often with little or no training on how to maneuver from one role to the other. Whether is learning how to document successes or identify areas for improvement, leaders set the tone for professionalism. Be prepared to have coaching conversations and compliance conversations. Know what is appropriate to say, and what is inappropriate to say. Leaders play an integral part in the success of new hires from the hiring process to retaining them through proper motivation or addressing issues that warrant termination. Each of these elements requires a separate approach from coaching, cheering, and communicating. This program will provide each participant with the opportunity to gain experience principles and processes, and how to identify the skill needed and how to set the right tone to properly address the situation presented.
There is a diversity of change that is occurring, from how we work, to where we work, to how life looks and feels. When change occurs, it is imperative that we make people feel important and understand the role they have in embracing and implementing the change. Today, the need for a big-picture thinker on change is greater than ever, driven by an unstable economy, where downsizing is the norm and remaining employees are allocated to take on more work. This program is one method for being proactive in assuring that existing employees understand the change process to increase the success of making the needed change initiatives and decreases resistance.
People spend over a third of their life at work or over 90,000 hours of their life at work. As demands increase, stress levels increase, and the workplace can become a highly volatile place. Therefore, establishing safety in the workplace is one of the most effective ways to protect the most valuable asset: the people who are working. Creating a safe workplace includes creating psychological safety which means learning how to provide support before it is needed, when it is needed and where it is needed, so as to prevent issues that could result in harm or accidents to workers. The Helpful Examination Assessment Resource Tools (HEART) course provides tools and strategies for individuals to utilize when they encounter someone experiencing a crisis, mental health challenge or highly distressful situation. Understanding how to proactively identify or recognize potential concerns and how to appropriately respond is an important step in decreasing the likelihood of a situation becoming a crisis.
Communication is one of the most important skills for leaders. Whether we are collaborating or addressing performance issues, what we say matters. Our words and actions can make the difference between preventing an obstacle or creating an obstacle that may involve HR. Advancing the art of communicating is synonymous with rising to be an excellent leader. Learn how to achieve clarity, and how to use investigating questions to get to the root issues of a problem. Leaders who are advancing their communication skills will be asked to look at their current fundamental approaches and compare these to techniques proven to be the most effective methods by leaders. This program will share the strategies and techniques to increase confidence and proficiency across a range of topics. In addition, we will share strategies for achieving clarity when reviewing finances with a board or speaking about important legislative matters that impact your industry.
